Most of the dead including children were fisherfolk.At least four of the rest were of those who came for early morning walk along the beachfront.

Some of the children playing in the beachfront were also swept away.In all, the three major government hospitals here received the bodies in what seemed an unending row, of the young and the old; men, women and children.

A wall of water rose from the Bay of Bengal, smashed its way into the city, flooding coastal areas.The worst-affected were hamlets in Santhome and Mylapore.

Edwin (24) one of the kuppam boys who survived because he could swim said: "I was exercising on the beach with a few others. Suddenly we saw the water come very fast. The younger children began running toward the Kannagi statue. As they were children they ran fast. My karate master was struggling. I tried to help him and his son. Just when I was halfway to the statue a huge wave hit my chest. Then another went over me. I held on to the two men but I saw the three children who were almost near the statue being washed away."K. Pugazhendi, a sound engineer who lives behind the housing board flats in Srinivasapuram in Pattinampakkam in a hut, almostrescued his 11-month-old daughter,

Dec 23 farmers day

                     Farmers Day

     Farmer's Day is celebrated on the 23rd of December every year to promote awareness to help and reward farmers for their contribution to society. Atleast Farmer's Day observance compel us to think how farmers grow crops with great difficulty and theirburnt skin to feed us, but themselves remain backward and wretched.

     It is celebrated on 23rd December as it is the Birthday of Indian farmer's leader late Chaudhary Charan Singh.They should be helped generously in education and healthcare. For all these, the first step is to elevate the living conditions of farmers. Their continued over-reliance on rain-fed agriculture is doing a ot of harm to the economy. For this farmers change and give way to improved modern systems of farming.

    The Farmer's Day observance is a programme to assess how important is the role of farmers in social and economic development of a country. They need to be helped in education, training in scientific farming, loan, storage and marketing of their produce and manu more. Of course, the Agricultural Department is taking care of their needs but the involvement of the whole country is needed to work for the cause of farmers. Farmer's co-operative movement has gained momentum in some developed states. Yet we have to go a long way.

avoid selfies in these places

Taking a #selfiemight be your way of exercising self-identification and giving yourself a sense of an emulating experience. It might not be the pinnacle of a very artistic achievement that you could brag about, but it sure gives a deepinsight into how young people see themselves.Whether in dimly lit rooms with glowering eyes, a duck face pouted look, or a full strut in front of the dresser,#selfiesare everywhere. You often get tempted a little bit to indulge yourself in these pictures by looking at the world going gaga over selfies!You do get to express yourself in a fun way, but it gets out of control and inappropriate at times in public and private after you’ve shared them on social media networks. So make sure you follow these #selfie etiquette tips the next time you take out your phone to click yet another one of those #selfies!

1. Memorials or cemeteries and funerals
           It is very disrespectful to click #selfies in such a situation. Smiling with a gravestone in the background is not just disrespectful it is kind of creepy too. Before doing it, just ponder over how you would feel if people end up at you grave clicking pictures happily. Also you don’t have to show the worldhow saddened you were with the death of the person who’s funeral you are at by clicking a selfie there!

2. Driving
      Taking a selfie in the car’s passenger seat or back seat is still considered OK, but while driving, it is a complete no no. You might end up wrecked somewhere. You are not only putting your life in danger but the ones travelling with you too and also the ones on the road.
3. Emergency
         You don’t need to take out your phone to click a selfie at an emergency situation, rather use it to call help if needed. There are numerous photos being taken at auto accidents – whether the person was involved or not in the accident is altogether a different question. Tragic times do not call for a selfie low brow proliferation.
4. Bathroom
         Seriously to click yourself in a private place where you do your business is very disgusting! A lot of people hoard up to this sacred place in a series of experimental #selfies. The most rude and disgusting thing about this is that sometimes the naïve people unknown of this impulsive act also get included inthe background.

5. At the gym
     It is OK to a point when you click yourself at a gym sweating it out. What is not accepted is to include the other person struggling with weights in the background, which is totally in bad taste. Do you want to look good and feel good? Take a selfie after you leave the gym wit h the post glow of a workout.Works better.

6. Drunk

      Drunk calls that you make are embarrassing enough; you don’t have to go all the way and click a #selfie when you are drunk and post it on Facebook! We know you are having a good time at a party but you sure don’t want to post your drunken selfie all over the FB or Instagram wall!
7. Naked/Partially Naked
         It is not at all accepted. You don’t need to taketopless selfiesto show how sexy you are. What seems fun at the moment will be embarrassing enough coming back to haunt you years later.Throw on some clothes before you click a selfie!So there you go – follow these simple selfie rules and you’re set. Happy clicking!

Car Free Day in Delhi on 22nd Dec 2015

Delhi goes 'Car Free' for a day, Kejriwal leads cycle Rally

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwalled a cycle rally here on the capital's first Car Free Day on Thursday, and said travelling needs to be made safe.

Over 100 cyclists joined Kejriwal in the rally held between the 17th century Red Fort in Old Delhi and India Gate, a World War I monument. He was accompanied by his ministers and other bureaucrats.

He said there was too much congestion on Delhi roads that leads to pollution in the city and that people need to step forward to improve the condition.

Some 84 lakh vehicles ply in Delhi every day, contributing to its chaotic traffic and worsening quality of air.

He cited cycling helps all, even a diabetic like himself.

A fellow cyclist Puneet, who is in his 40s, lauded the government's efforts and urged it to hold the rally on Sundays.

Apple reduced prices of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in India

 Apple cut prices of its latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus by up to 16% cent just two months after their launch in India to boost flagging sales in what is historically its most crucial quarter as demand for the flagship devices nosedived from a Diwali high.

New price :

* iPhone 6S (16GB): Rs 48,499
* iPhone 6S (64GB): Rs 62,849
* iPhone 6S (128GB): Rs 74,940
* iPhone 6S Plus (16GB): Rs 61,999
* iPhone 6S Plus (64GB): Rs 75,499
* iPhone 6S Plus (128GB): Rs 85,999

The price of the iPhone 6s 16 GB model, which was introduced at Rs 62,000 on October 16, has fallen by 11-16% and now ranges between Rs 52,000 and Rs 55,000, according to four large retailers who spoke to ET on condition of anonymity. The price cuts are across all variants - 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB — of both models. The average difference in prices of all iPhone 6s and 6s Plus devices between launch time and now is about 15 per cent, a top executive at a national retailer said.

This is the first time that the price of an Apple flagship has been brought down within two months of launch, underlining concerns around the initial pricing, said Tarun Pathak, senior analyst at Counterpoint Technology Market Research. Apple declined to comment on the matter.

Apple had introduced the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus at Rs 62,000-Rs 92,000, about Rs 8,000-Rs 9,500 more than launch prices of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The models wereRs 14,000-Rs 16,000 costlier than those available in the US, Middle East and Hong Kong, raising concerns that demand would be hurt.

Apple imported almost 320,000 of the latest iPhones in October in India, the world's fastest-growing smartphone market, sparking hopes of its best ever quarter. Shipments have slumped since then and the latest data suggests that imports of the new models fell 62 per cent to 120,000 in November.

The latest price cuts come after Apple iPhone 5s prices were slashed for the third time in three months, now starting at Rs 24,999, almost half its September price.

The price cuts indicate that Apple maybe trying to revive demand in the October-to-December quarter, which has historically been the strongest period for the company due to its flagship launches.

Industry insiders said Apple's distributors are selling the iPhone models at marked-down prices, allowing retailers to offer all models at discounted rates.

Below is the approximate prices of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on one of the country's biggest e-commerce website:

The Handloom industry is a part of the Textile industry. The Textile industry occupies a unique place India. One of the earliestto come into existence in India, it accounts for 14% of the total Industrial production, contributes to nearly 30% of the total exports and is the second largest employment generator after agriculture.

Dec 18 minorities rights day

Minority rights:
         Minority rightsare the normalindividual rightsas applied to members of racial,ethnic,class,religious,linguisticorsexual minorities; and also thecollective rightsaccorded to minority groups. .Minority rights may also apply simply toindividual rightsof anyone who is not part of amajority decision.Civil rights movementsoften seek to ensure that individual rightsare not denied on the basis of membership in a minority group, such as globalwomen's rightsand globalLGBT rightsmovements, or the various racial minority rights movements around the world (such as theAfrican-American Civil Rights Movement (1955–1968)).

History:
         The issue of minority rights was first raised in 1814, at theCongress of Vienna, which discussed the fate of German Jews and especially of the Poles who were once again partitioned up. The Congress expressed hope that Prussia, Russia, and Austria would grant tolerance and protection to their minorities, which ultimately they disregarded, engaging in organized discrimination. The Congress of Paris in 1856 paid special attention to the status of Jews and Christians in the Ottoman Empire. In BritainWilliam E Gladstonemade outrage regarding the massacres of Bulgarians by the Ottoman Empire a major campaign issue and demanded international attention. TheCongress of Berlinin 1878 dealt with the status of Jews in Romania, especially, and also Serbia, and Bulgaria. On the whole these 19th century congresses failed to impose significant reforms. Russia was especially active in protecting Orthodox Christians, and Slavic peoples under the control of the Ottoman Empire. Persecution or discrimination against specific minorities was increasingly the subject of media attention, and the Jews began to organize to protest the pogroms in Russia. However, there was little international outrage regarding other minorities, such as the blacks in the southern United States. No one paid much attention to the attacks on Armenians until it became large-scale genocide in 1915, and even then nothing was done.The first minority rights were proclaimed and enacted by the revolutionary Parliament of Hungary in July 1849.Minority rights were codified in Austrian law in 1867.

History of selfieee

           A selfie is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a digital camera or camera phone held in the hand or supported by a selfie stick. Selfies are often shared on social networking services such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. They are usually flattering and made to appear casual. Most selfies are taken with a camera held at arm's length or pointed at a mirror, rather than by using a self-timer. A selfie stick may be used to widen the angle of view, such as for group selfies.

History

       First known selfie, taken by Robert Cornelius in 1839.Robert Cornelius, an American pioneer in photography, produced a daguerreotype of himself in 1839 which is also one of the first photographs of a person. Because the process was slow he was able to uncover the lens, run into the shot for a minute or more, and then replace the lens cap.[1] He recorded on the back "The first light Picture ever taken. 1839."
            The debut of the portable Kodak Brownie box camera in 1900 led to photographic self-portraiture becoming a more widespread technique. The method was usually by mirror and stabilizing the camera either on a nearby object or on a tripod while framing via a viewfinder at the top of the box.[3] Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna at the age of 13 was one of the first teenagers to take her own picture using a mirror to send to a friend in 1914. In the letter that accompanied the photograph, she wrote, "I took this picture of myself looking at the mirror. It was very hard as my hands were trembling.

      The earliest usage of the word selfie can be traced as far back as 2002. It first appeared in Karl Kruszelnicki's 'Dr Karl Self-Serve Science Forum', an Australian internet forum (ABC Online) on 13 September 2002.

The concept of uploading group self-taken photographs to the internet, although with a disposable camera and not a smartphone, dates to a webpage created by Australians in September 2001, including photos taken in the late 1990s (captured by the Internet Archive in April 2004)

Dec 14 world energy conservation day

       Energy conservation refers to reducing energy consumption through using less of an energy service. Energy conservation differs from efficient energy use, which refers to using less energy for a constant service.[1] For example, driving less is an example of energy conservation. Driving the same amount with a higher mileage vehicle is an example of energy efficiency. Energy conservation and efficiency are both energy reduction techniques.

     Even though energy conservation reduces energy services, it can result in increased environmental quality, national security, personal financial security and higher savings.It is at the top of the sustainable energy hierarchy.[citation needed] It also lowers energy costs by preventing future resource depletion.

Energy conservation by the countries-

       At the end of 2006, the European Union (EU) pledged to cut its annual consumption of primary energy by 20% by 2020.[18] The 'European Union Energy Efficiency Action Plan' is long awaited. Directive 2012/27/EU is on energy efficiency.

As part of the EU's SAVE Programme,[20] aimed at promoting energy efficiency and encouraging energy-saving behaviour, the Boiler Efficiency Directive[21] specifies minimum levels of efficiency for boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels.

India :

      Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) www.pcra.org is an Indian government body created in 1977 and engaged in promoting energy efficiency and conservation in every walk of life. In the recent past PCRA has done mass media campaigns in television, radio & print media. An impact assessment survey by a third party revealed that due to these mega campaigns by PCRA, overall awareness level have gone up leading to saving of fossil fuels worth crores of rupees(Indian currency) besides reducing pollution.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency is an Indian governmental organization created in 2001 responsible for promoting energy efficiency and conservation.

Beep song in trouble

          Cases have been filed at cbe for restricting the songs .The 'beep song' sung by Silambarasan and composed by Anirudh Ravichander is the talk of the town today but for all bad reasons. Many social media are condemning the song for its objectionable usage of Tamil cuss words in the song as those words are clearly understandable despite the attempt to mute it with the beep sound. The song had its share of supporters who argued that the everybody is using cuss words in day to day conversations and what was wrong in using it in a song and it can be ignored by those who do not like it.
The song was leaked  and it was not officially released. Hence we could not rule out the misuse of these two young talents of Kollywood.
       But now a person known to be a close friend of the multi talented actor has confirmed in his Twitter feed that the song was indeed composed by Anirudh and sung by Simbu. The tweet also says that the song was not for public release.
"First of all the song was done for friends amongst friends and it was not for public audience. Some over enthusiastic friend who got this song shared it amongst his network & it got sped virally. "
Hope this clarification ends the controversy surrounding the song.

Dec 10world human rights day

        Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year

         The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations. The formal establishment of Human Rights Day occurred at the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on 4 December 1950, when the General Assembly declared resolution 423(V), inviting all member states and any other interested organizations to celebrate the day as they saw fit.

The day is normally marked both by high-level political conferences and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human rights issues. In addition it is traditionally on 10 December that the five-yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights and Nobel Peace Prize are awarded. Many governmental and non-governmental organizations active in the human rights field also schedule special events to commemorate the day, as do many civil and social-cause organizations.

History:

         Human Rights Day is the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

         The formal inception of Human Rights Day dates from 1950, after the Assembly passed resolution 423(V) inviting all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.[4] The popularity of the day can be shown by the fact that the commemorative Human Rights Day stamp issued by the United Nations Postal Administration in 1952, received approximately 200,000 advance orders.

          A 1963 postage stamp from Soviet Union, commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
When the General Assembly adopted the Declaration, with 48 states in favor and eight abstentions, it was proclaimed as a "common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations", towards which individuals and societies should "strive by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance". The measure was received by both advocates and critics alike as "being more declarative than legislative, more suggestive than binding."[6]

        Although the Declaration with its broad range of political, civil, social, cultural and economic rights is not a binding document, it inspired more than 60 human rights instruments which together constitute an international standard of human rights. Today the general consent of all United Nations Member States on the basic Human Rights laid down in the Declaration makes it even stronger and emphasizes the relevance of Human Rights in our daily lives.

         The High Commissioner for Human Rights, as the main United Nations rights official, and her Office play a major role in coordinating efforts for the yearly observation of Human Rights Day.

“ Today, poverty prevails as the gravest human rights challenge in the world. Combating poverty, deprivation and exclusion is not a matter of charity, and it does not depend on how rich a country is. By tackling poverty as a matter of human rights obligation, the world will have a better chance of abolishing this scourge in our lifetime... Poverty eradication is an achievable goal. ”
— UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, 10 December 2006
The 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights occurred on 10 December 2008, and the UN Secretary-General launched a year-long campaign leading up to this anniversary.[7] Because the UDHR holds the world record as the most translated document (except for the Bible), organizations around the globe used the year to focus on helping people everywhere learn about their rights.
